For forty years, Mr. Alistair’s little shop was a quiet sanctuary of rhythm. Every wall was lined with clocks—grand grandfather clocks that groaned like old men, and eccentric cuckoo clocks that burst into song at odd intervals. Yet, the grandest timepiece in the shop—a towering mahogany clock with a golden pendulum—had remained silent since the day he opened.

One rainy afternoon, a curious twelve-year-old girl named Maya sought shelter in the shop. Fascinated by the silent giant, she asked why he kept a broken clock. Mr. Alistair smiled. "It isn’t broken, child. It was built by my grandfather to tick only when someone enters this room with a truly selfless purpose. It measures the warmth of the human heart, not the turning of the earth."

Just then, a shivering old woman entered, carrying a rusted music box. "Can you fix this?" she asked faintly. "I have no money to pay you."

Mr. Alistair accepted it without hesitation. "A beautiful piece like this deserves to sing again. No payment needed." As his tools clicked against the rusted springs, a deep, resonant tick-tock suddenly echoed through the room. The silent mahogany clock’s golden pendulum began to swing.
